18th January: Kent Branch 10th Anniversary Dinner. The Branch held its Inaugural Meeting on 31st January 2009, to mark the occasion members decided to hold an Anniversary Dinner. From the original 14 members only 4 remain today, at the Dinner we remembered those no longer with us and the good times we all enjoyed together, while looking forward with younger members and the good times ahead.
19th January: NFAAA Committee Meeting. The Secretary and Vice Chairman attended the meeting at RNA Hanworth, the main item on the Agenda was the rewrite of the Association Constitution which was agreed and passed by the Committee.
28th January: Kent Branch AGM.
12th February: CDA Memorial Service in Ramsgate. The Branch was represented by six members with our Chairman laying a Poppy Wreath, on completion members retired to a local hostelry for refreshments.
9th March: Alan Lloyd Crossed the Bar. Alan served 1955 – 1979 in the Fleet Air Arm. Rank REA1 (A) During his Naval Service Alan served on several Shore establishments including RAF Changi also Serving onboard HMS Centaur and Ark Royal. He completed his service with a 3 year attachment to The Royal Naval College of Science. Alan had been a resident of RNBT Pembroke House for several years.
25th March. Meeting at Pembroke House. This meeting had been arranged before the sad news of Alan Lloyd passing, 11 members attended the meeting and Alan was in our thoughts.
29th March. Funeral of Alan Lloyd. The funeral was held at Medway Crematorium followed by the wake at Pembroke House. The Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Howard Richards attended along with Alan’s family and his good friend Tony.
5th – 8th April.FAAA Reunion Weekend and AGM. Bournemouth was the venue for this year’s reunion, the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary all travelled by car together, the trip out on Sunday was to the FAA Museum at Yeovilton, which is always a great day out. The weekend weather was not fantastic but we still managed to have a good time.
4th May.Army v Navy Rugby Match: The Ramsgate RNA Club played host to serving and veterans of the Armed Forces to watch the game on TV, with a BBQ before and after the match. Once again the Navy came 2nd.
16th May. Ramsgate Sea Cadet RNP Inspection. Secretary attended to represent our Branch along with Colin Powell as Ramsgate RNA Chairman
Sunday 19th May.FAA Memorial Service. Memorial Service at Lee-on-Solent was organised by the FAAA and was held at St Faiths Church as it was not possible to get a road closure notice from the local council to hold the service at the Memorial. To represent the Kent Branch the Secretary attended.
