21st January: NFAAA Committee Meeting. The Secretary and Vice Chairman attended the meeting at RNA Hanworth
23rd January: Kent Branch AGM
9th February: To mark the 75th Anniversary of The Channel Dash; 825 NAS held a Service of Remembrance followed by a Mess Dinner at HMS Heron. The Secretary and Vice Chairman attended to represent the Branch and lay a wreath.
12th February: CDA Memorial Service in Ramsgate. On a very cold Sunday, members gathered for the Service at the CDA Memorial in Ramsgate, which included a fly past of Wildcat Helicopters from 825 NAS.
7th - 10th April: The Reunion Weekend was this year held at Kettering with the Vice Chairman (Geoff Owens), Secretary (Mike Foote) and Barrie Davies attending from the Kent Branch. On the Sunday it was the Bletchley Park visit which was very interesting but way over our heads, especially after the Gala Dinner the night before.
24th April: Pembroke House meeting. The meeting and lunch was attended by 13 members, with the all important “lamp swinging” around the bar.
29th April: Army v Navy Rugby Match. Despite the score, members who watched the match on TV at the Ramsgate RNA Club enjoyed the banter, company, drinks and the BBQ.
5th May: Eastchurch Observance. With the aid of the Margate Sea Cadet Unit mini-bus, seven members attended the Annual Eastchurch Observance.
20th May: Lee-on-Solent Remembrance Service. This is held annually on the seafront at The Fleet Air Arm Memorial, and was attended by the Kent Branch Secretary in his position of NFAAA Chairman.
24th June: Armed Forces Day. The Kent Branch was represented at parades in Chatham by our Chairman John Brown and in Ramsgate by a number of Branch members.
20th July: Armed Forces Day. The Branch was invited to attend the Annual Royal Naval Parade for the Margate Sea Cadet Unit.
29th July: Pembroke House Garden Party. After an unfortunate problem with the Sea Cadet mini-bus, seven members travelled in 2 cars for the PH Garden Party.
10th September: 100th Anniversary of the Chatham Dockyard Bombing. The Vice Chairman and Secretary joined a party from Ramsgate RNA to attend a Service and Parade to mark this event. At the ceremony they met up with the Branch Chairman who was there with the Chatham RNA. On completion the Ramsgate party moved on to the Isle of Sheppey for a commemoration service for HMS Wildfire.
25th September: Pembroke House meeting. Branch members made the third visit to Pembroke house this year for a meal and chat around the bar. Whilst there the Branch presented an Association Wings Lapel Badge to Laura who runs the bar and looks after us when we visit.
30th September: 75th Anniversary of The Channel Dash. The Memorial Service and Parade was held at the CDA Monument on Dover sea front. Representing Kent Branch was The Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Howard Richards.
14th October: NFAAA Committee and Open Meeting. This was held at the RNA Club Hanworth and was attended by the Vice Chairman and Secretary.
3rd November: Taranto Dinner. Although the Dinner once again was a very enjoyable event, this year our numbers were down on previous years.
4th November: Minster Cemetery. Branch members attended the service to mark the 100th Anniversary for S/Lt George Hodges-Herriot RN killed in action aged 20 while flying a Sea-plane based at Westgate in the Thames Estuary spotting for submarines. The service was arranged by Colonel R.G.H.Herriot OBE DL the great uncle of the deceased, who with family members had travelled from the Midlands for the event
11th and 12th November: Remembrance Weekend. The Vice Chairman laid our Poppy Wreath at the War Graves in Ramsgate cemetery on the 11th. On Remembrance Sunday members took part in Parades at Chatham and Ramsgate, Kent Branch Poppy Wreaths were laid at both events.
9th December: Christmas Lunch. 27 members, family and friends enjoyed the good food, great company and comical banter, not forgetting the liquid refreshments at our festive lunch.
