16th January: NFAAA Committee Meeting.
The Secretary and Vice Chairman attended the meeting at RNA Hanworth
25th January: Kent Branch AGM, The Committee have one more year to serve before an election is required. Chairman - Margaret Lees, Vice Chairman - Geoff Owens, Secretary/Treasurer - MikeFoote
11th February: The Secretary was invited to a dinner with Val Sayers and Carol Lees at The Oak Hotel; there he was given a framed photo depicting the six Swordfish flying over Ramsgate Harbour heading out to attack the German ships.
12th February: CDA Memorial Service in Ramsgate. Branch members attended the CDA Service to remember the aircrew of the 6 Swordfish from 825 NAS who left Manston on 12th February 1942 to attack the German ships transiting the Channel. All aircraft and most of the crews were lost over the Channel. Branch member MAA Colin Powell laid our Poppy Wreath.
8th – 11th April: FAAA Reunion and AGM in Bristol. The Kent Branch Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary attended the weekend Reunion and AGM in Bristol.
Mike Foote was appointed to the position of National Fleet Air Arm Chairman which he will carry out for a minimum of two years.
25th April: Pembroke House meeting. Nine Branch members travelled by mini-bus for the PH meeting, we enjoyed a very good 3 course lunch followed by a short meeting, then with the bar open it was time to “swing the lamp”.
30th April: Army v Navy Rugby Match. Members enjoyed the game on TV at Ramsgate RNA Club with a pre-match BBQ and beer.
6th May: Eastchurch Observance. Members travelled by mini-bus driven by the Secretary to Eastchurch for the annual Aviation Observance Service. The Address was given by Admiral of the Fleet Lord Boyce KG. GCB. OBE. DL. Lord Warden and Admiral of the Cinque Ports. While some members had a pint, others went off to visit the local Aviation Museum.
14th / 15th May: Fleet Air Arm Association Memorial Weekend. Mike Foote attended the weekend on behalf of the Branch and as the National Chairman.
Saturday evening was Dinner at Lee-on-Solent Golf Club and on Sunday a service at the Memorial on Lee-on-Solent seafront followed by lunch at the golf club.
19th May: 825 Sqdn Wings Parade RNAS Yeovilton. Due to the affiliation Kent Branch has with 825 Sqdn the Secretary was invited to attend the Wings Parade at Yeovilton.
With a Parade, Ceremonial Guard, Awards presentations, drinks, a look around the Wildcat HMAS2 and Merlin Mk2 helicopters, followed by a Flying Display, it was a fantastic morning. Then it was on to the Wardroom for more drinks and lunch, the Secretary could get use to this very quickly. Accommodation for Mike was arranged by Colin Powell in the WO and Senior Rates Mess.
16th June:The Secretary attended the Eastchurch Observance meeting to plan for the next Observance in 2017.
25th June. Armed Forces Day:The Ramsgate parade this year was held around the harbour with a Drum Head Service near the Channel Dash Memorial.
30th July. Pembroke House Garden Party:With the use of the Margate Sea Cadet mini-bus, members once more made the trip to Gillingham to attend the Garden Party at Pembroke House and a good time was had by one and all.
19th September. Meeting at Pembroke House:With the use of the Margate Sea Cadets mini-bus, members travelled to Gillingham for a 3 course lunch and meeting in Pembroke House. The Loyal Toast was taken with a tot of rum from the second bottle left to the Branch by the late George Meaden. Post meeting members gathered around the bar to “swing the lamp” and share dits.
24th September:The Secretary and Vice Chairman travelled to Derby for the NFAAA Committee and General open meeting.
4th November: Taranto Dinner - Although our numbers are slowly falling, members still enjoyed the good food and excellent company.
13th November: Remembrance Sunday - Members attended parades at Ramsgate, Margate and Chatham.
10th December: Christmas Lunch - Excellent lunch was had by all BUT more silly Christmas jumpers next year please.
