26th January: Kent Branch AGM. With
Peter Nixon moving to Wales and John Bell standing down, the Branch
needed a new Chairman and Treasurer. The Secretary stated that he
would take on the additional role of Treasurer and asked if the
Vice Chairman would move to Chairman, this was agreed. After some
debate among members the position of Vice Chairman was filled by
12th February: Channel Dash Memorial Service at Ramsgate Harbour, thankfully no snow this year although it was bitterly cold. Peter Nixon as CDA Chairman made the journey back down the M4 to head the event.
15th February: Sadly Roy Scadden “Crossed the Bar”. Roy served 1941 – 1946 as an Air Fitter. Before the war Roy was a qualified gas fitter so returned after the war to work for the gas board. As the years past Roy held a variety of jobs, finally retiring at 70yrs of age. In later life when his sight was failing Roy became a member of St Dunstans. .
11th March: Six Branch members attended the funeral of Roy Scadden at Vinters Park Crematorium Maidstone.
12th – 15th April: Fleet Air Arm Association AGM and Reunion Weekend, this year held at Tillington Hall Hotel Stafford. The event was attended by Kent Branch members Mike Foote (Secretary) and his wife Sheelah, along with Jim & Christine Loveday.
22nd April: Members travelled to Pembroke House, the RNBT Home in Gillingham for the April meeting and to “swing the lamp” with members in residence.
15th May: The Vice Chairman and Secretary carried out a visit to Stella Warden on her return home after a successful operation.
30th June: Armed Forces Day.
20th July: The Vice Chairman and Secretary attended the NFAAA Committee meeting at Hanworth RNA Club
21st July : Sadly Peter Stokes “Crossed the Bar. After leaving the RN, Peter worked as a painter and decorator before taking up the position of school caretaker which he did for many years before retirement. Peter was a member of the FAAA Birmingham Branch before transferring to the Kent Branch when it was newly formed in 2009
27th July :Pembroke House Garden Party and BBQ
23rd September: Branch meeting held at Pembroke House with resident Tony Morris, one of our members.
10th November : Remembrance Day. Branch members attended both Ramsgate and Margate Parades. The Poppy Wreath in Ramsgate was laid by Geoff Owens (Vice Chairman) and in Margate by John Bell.
22nd November : Taranto Dinner. The Dinner was again held at The Racing Greyhound Ramsgate, with members, family and friends giving a total of 25 on the night.
14th December: Christmas Lunch.
